Überrito has 5 area locations to choose from in the Houston area. The one we visited is on Westheimer in West Houston – just minutes from the Galleria. The locally-based, fast-casual Mexican food served here is muy bueno!
Überrito is a unique dining experience that proves you can get fresh, flavor, fast! This fast-casual concept is unbelievable – you literally build your own experience!
I noticed they carry eight house-made salsas, so I asked if they could make me a Salsa Flight. She paused for a second and then said “Sure, why not!” I was quickly served up all eight salsas along with wonderful Queso and chips! Ha! I like that! At Überrito, you get to choose from an unlimited combination of ingredients: eight different proteins, 28 toppings or side dishes, eight house-made salsas, and four flavors of fresh tortillas. The unlimited combinations can be made into tacos, burritos, nachos, bowls, and salads. These are not only fresh and quick, but there’s something to please everyone.
We ordered a number of different combinations, but my favorites were the Salsa Flight, the Double Fajita Steak Nachos, the Surf and Turf Burrito, the Diablo Shrimp, the Fork Pork Tacos, and the Salad. Uhhhh… the whole menu.
I like to order a Salsa Flight at almost every Mexican restaurant I stop at. So why would my visit to Überrito be any different? Here’s what came in the wonderful Salsa Flight that was built for me: Zesty Tomatillo, Raging Habanero, Spicy Avocado, Smoky Chile de Árbol, Serrano Ranch, Tomatillo Tomato, Totally Tomato and Queso! My VERY favorite was the Spicy Avocado – wonderfully creamy with a just a little heat.
A super fan of nachos, that’s what I am! And, I couldn’t wait to dig into this mound of goodness! You get to pick your own ingredients at Überrito, so I decided to go with Double Fajita Steak, Queso, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, and fresh jalapeños. The fajita steak was piled high and the cool sour cream allowed the fresh jalapeños to pop. Loved every crunchy bite!
Überrito takes prides in being fresh and fast! Well, what better way to find out how fresh the ingredients are than by building a nice salad? I added Grilled Chicken and Shredded Pork Carnitas to the bed of lettuce. Next, some sautéed mushrooms, cotija cheese, chopped red onions, roasted corn and finished off with a scoop of guacamole with sour cream drizzled across the top. What a combination! And fresh? That is an understatement. My creation was not only fresh, but it was sitting on the table in less 5 minutes. Perfect for the family on the run.
My favorite burrito has been and always will be the Surf and Turf. At Überrito, just ask for Fajita Steak and Grilled Shrimp… then add some Spanish Rice, pinto beans, fajita veggies, shredded cheese, lettuce, Jicama Slaw, chopped red onions, chopped cilantro, chipotle aioli, Pico de Gallo and top it off with the Totally Tomato Salsa – and you have the Surf and Turf. This burrito is something else! The steak and shrimp combo took me on a little vacation to Baja. The Surf and Turf was built with all the right portions of each ingredient. I know I sound like a broken record but fresh, fresh, fresh, fresh. Ha!
We ordered a number of different tacos, but the two that stood out the most were the Diablo Shrimp and the Forked Pork Tacos. The Diablo Shrimp Taco is truly UBER! This slightly spicy taco was encased in two corn tortillas and filled with Sautéed Shrimp, onions, and jalapeños topped with shredded cheese, Jicama Slaw, and pickled jalapeños drizzled with Zesty Tomatillo Salsa. The Jicama Slaw and pickled jalapenos were what set this taco apart… the Zesty Tomatillo Salsa just sealed the deal.
Another one of my favorite specialty tacos here at Überrito is the Forked Pork. The Forked Pork is stuffed with my favorite – carnitas. Shredded Pork Carnitas topped with Pico de Gallo and shredded cheese then drizzled with Spicy Avocado Salsa and sour cream. The carnitas had such a wonderful flavor and the fresh Pico gave me the impression that the vegetables had been picked that morning. Seriously.
This was my first experience at Überrito, but I can promise you it won’t be my last. From the minute I walked in the door, I could tell this place was on another level. The whole menu was incredible and fit every mood… but full. Ha!
