The Halal Guys has a few locations in Houston. I visited the Westheimer location in between S. Kirkwood and Hayes Rd. Everything served at The Halal Guys is just a little different… a little better. If you are looking for a healthy alternative to fast food, these guys are where it’s at. I love this place!!!
The first thing I notice as I drive up are the patio tables, which is a nice touch for those beautiful Houston days (even though they might be few and far between, Ha!). Once I entered the restaurant I just about fell over. The aroma fills the air as you see the juicy meat circle round and round on the rotisserie. My mouth starts to water as I see the man thinly slicing each piece of meat off like he is playing a fine instrument. I’m quickly brought out of my meat coma with a smile from the woman at the front of the counter. She says would you like a sandwich or a platter? Both I reply.
The Halal Guys keep it simple, which honestly, I think most restaurants should do. Do what you do and do it right! Well the Halal guys here are doing just that. You have chicken, beef gyro and falafel. You can get them separate or as a combo. The icing on top… literally is their famous white sauce, which they now sell separately by the way. I highly recommend you take some home. And then you have your sides. They have hummus, baba ganouj, falafel and fries. I tasted it all. My two favorites were the Chicken and Beef Combo Platter and the Chicken Gyro.
The Chicken and Beef Platter at The Halal Guys is amazing. Every bite is better than the last. The chicken is so moist and flavorful. I watched them cook it before my very eyes while in line. The beef was cooked the same way… no wonder the aroma was so awesome as I walked through the door. The meat is piled high on a bed of lettuce along with fresh cut tomatoes and a couple of pieces of pita bread. Next, you must insist they drizzle some of their famous white sauce across the top. Why mouth is watering just thinking about this delightful dish. This is my favorite menu item and I get it every time I return. It’s a must for sure!
Next up was the Chicken Gyro. As I already explained, the chicken is so moist and juicy that the flavors just linger in your mouth. This large bundle of joy has freshly chopped onions, tomatoes and bell peppers to create a combination of flavor and crunchiness that fits just perfectly. Oh, and did I mention the famous white sauce that just leaks out of the front of the pristine pita? Yep, I suggest you put this white creamy sauce on anything and everything you order here at The Halal Guys. I could just drink it. Ha! Seriously.
Well, like I said, if you are looking for a healthy alternative to fast food, but with a get and go feel… The Halal Guys is where you need to visit. This fast-casual restaurant is as good as it gets. Everything from the Gyros to the Platters, the beef to the chicken and the falafel to the fries. It’s all good! But, don’t take my word for it…. Just see for yourself. Enjoy!
