A restaurant that can survive without Friday evening or Saturday seating’s is almost unheard of. However, Genesis Steakhouse and Wine Bar does exactly this as a nod to its Kosher roots. Within moments of entering, you will understand that this place is something special and why they are quickly making a name for themselves. Likewise, a kosher steakhouse seems to be culinary reinvention, as this is the first in the Southwestern area of the United States. The remarkable “Tree of Life” creates a visual centerpiece for the dining area and the elegant low lighting compliments the welcoming atmosphere. After our party was welcomed and drinks were served, we were treated to a private presentation about the innermost workings of a genuine Kosher steakhouse. The care and attention given to the selection of ingredients, down to the inspection of each lettuce leaf, had each of us impressed and intrigued. The same high standards flow into the careful preparation as well as the exquisite service. Our party was anxious for that first bite!
Our meal was presented course by course and each dish seemed to up the flavor ante as we progressed through our tasting. Some of the first standout dishes were: brisket tacos filled with meat so tender it melted in your mouth; avocados stuffed with Cajun spiced chicken, onions, peppers and topped with a white wine crema; and tangy smoked BBQ Brisket served on slider style onion rolls. Every bite was surprisingly as good as the last—perhaps better! No simple feat with such a varied menu!
You can’t exactly relive a night at a fantastic steakhouse without talking about the meat! We tried the bone-in Cowboy Steak—a prime black angus steak which was tender, juicy and prepared with a perfectly pink medium center. The sweet potato mash that accompanied this beauty was a delicate and welcome side dish! The bone-in Lamb was perfectly prepared with a tender bite and herbaceous seasoning! The meats are of superior quality, apparent immediately to us upon our first bite!
There was hardly room for dessert! However, the bread pudding drizzled in whiskey sauce nestled next to the warm, gooey house made brownies a-la-mode practically begged to be sampled! Not only did we sample, but we devoured these dessert gems. Both were sweet, delicate and expertly prepared. Worth the splurge!
The evening was filled with laughter, a few cocktails and of course the sharing of an incredible dining experience. We loved the charm of the setting and the staff! We were even treated to a peek at the high-tech and high glamour private dining room! Genesis is an alluring new restaurant–in ambiance, cuisine and concept. A welcome addition to the community and our city!
