DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks Katy is located just a few blocks south of Interstate 10 on South Mason Road in Katy. This is my first visit to the Katy location, but – by the looks of it – it is exactly what I expected… classic Texas décor, fun games to entertain, friendly smiles as we are greeted by the staff and a nice, fresh salad bar awaiting my return. Ha! Smiles all around!
I have enjoyed DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks all over Texas and one thing that stands out is the consistency. Well, the Katy location fits right into this mold. They make fresh dough every day and at least twice a day. Take a look at the photography and you will see that I was lucky enough to watch them hand toss it too! Straight pros here at DoubleDave’s.
As they say in Texas, this isn’t my first rodeo. I have been a lover of the Peproni Rolls and Philly Cheese Steak Stromboli here at the Double D for a long time now. I can remember going to DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks as a kid and, even then, the environment was amazing. The fun family-friendly atmosphere is a direct reflection of the philosophy here. Everyone is involved in helping the local community and organizations through fundraisers and hosting events. Fun, fun, fun!
If you are an adult and would like to sit back, eat pizza and watch one of your favorite sporting events with friends and a few Top Texas Craft Beers… you are at the right place! At DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks, you will find the game on every screen and a craft beer selection that will have you loving life!
Ok, now let’s not get it twisted. DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks does create ahhmazing pizzas, but they are not just a pizza joint. They have baked sandwiches, 4 styles of Stromboli, a salad bar equal to none, and, of course, their famous Peproni Rolls. If you haven’t enjoyed a Peproni Roll at DoubleDave’s – you haven’t truly enjoyed yourself. This is the birthplace of the Peproni Roll. Check it out – fresh dough made daily and filled with smoked Provolone and pepperoni and dipped in a fresh-made Red Sauce or their proprietary Ranch Sauce. Is THAT something you would be interested in?
Well, it’s Friday, this is my job and I got stuff to do! Ha! that’s an inside joke, Craig.
The first thing I do after I walk through the doors is go straight up to the counter and order a Top Texas Craft Beer in celebration of “Craft Beer Friday – a local Katy, Texas, favorite – El Hefe from No Label Brewing Company. I love El Hefe – it is light and refreshing with a wonderful hint of banana and citrus. I am a happy man!
For this visit, I brought my whole crew with me… that way I get to taste a little bit of everything on the menu. Some of my friends had never experienced DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks… and that was awesome! I got to break in a few newbies and change lives at the same time. For real!
We started things off with sandwiches. My two favorites arrived at the same time and we split them up for all to try. The whole table got excited over both of them: the Meatball and Chicken Cordon Bleu.
The Meatball Sandwich is a warm Tuscan baguette smothered with freshly-prepared tomato sauce, smoked Provolone, sliced Italian meatballs, Parmesan & Romano cheeses & oregano. The large meatballs are extremely flavorful and the tomato sauce is to die for! I always ask for extra Parmesan and Romano because I just love the way it gets soaked up by the Red Sauce… makes my taste buds burst with joy!
The Chicken Cordon Bleu here at DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks is exactly what you are looking for when you’re craving some white sauce! The Alfredo Sauce is absolutely delicious… perfectly paired with white American cheese, smoked Provolone cheese, smoked ham, and cheddar cheese. Cheese, cheese and more cheese. Oh, how I enjoy this sandwich!
Uhhhhh… did I mention the famous Peproni Rolls and Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli? If you have never experienced DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks, please, take a look at the photography before you go any further. Words can’t describe what I was about to experience!
The Peproni Rolls showed up first and I rushed to dive in… oops hot, HOT! Ha! You would think I would learn my lesson, but I can never wait to eat these hot, cheesy bites of heaven! These signature rolls are made with pepperoni & smoked Provolone cheese wrapped in a hand-tossed crust & served with homemade Red or Ranch Sauce. Definitely choose Ranch, the house-made Ranch here is just another thing DoubleDave’s is famous for – and with good reason! The Peproni Rolls are addictive and on another level when submerged into a bath of ridiculous Ranch Dressing. Yum!
My next adventure had a strong East Coast accent. The Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli arrived piping hot with fresh cheese melting out of the end. You have to be kidding me… I literally got butterflies! This gem has Mozzarella, white American cheese and thinly-sliced beef steak all folded up in their hand-tossed pizza crust. I could have eaten the whole thing myself, but I was nice enough to share. The beef steak is so flavorful and juicy, and the cheese just speaks for itself. Loads of cheesy goodness!
We ordered a number of pizzas, as you can see from the menu below, but my two favorites – especially at DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks – are the Works and what I call Puckett’s Pie.
The Works is built with Mozzarella, onion, green pepper, smoked ham, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushroom, smoked Provolone and oregano. I always like a pizza with everything on it, but here at DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks, the freshness of all the ingredients – especially the vegetables – just puts this one over the top for me. I highly recommend it.
Puckett’s Pie is next on my agenda – stacked up high with pepperoni, mushrooms, jalapeños and mozzarella. This has been my favorite topping selection since I was in high school. Friday night lights shine bright here in Texas and tonight they are shining bright on these fresh, crunchy, spicy jalapeños that go so well with the rich pepperoni and mushrooms. Thin-crust or deep-dish, Puckett’s Pie Pizza is sure to bring a smile to that kisser!
Dessert time! Ha! You didn’t think I would forget that, did you? We went with my two favorites here at DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks – the Cinnamonstyxz and the Chocolate Chip Pizza. Both are extremely sweet and delectable, but my favorite was the Chocolate Chip Pizza.
The Chocolate Chip Pizza is handcrafted with fresh, thin cookie dough, chocolate chips, and vanilla icing. This is the perfect dessert to share with the whole table. I just love it, but can only eat one piece. Well… maybe two if you force me. Wink, wink!
Sooooo…. after all that I was extremely full and refreshed with a smile from ear to ear.
DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks is one of my favorite places to enjoy a variety of pizzas, salads and Italian sandwiches. It’s also a great place to hang out and grab an adult beverage with friends and family on Craft Beer Friday. Every time I walk through the doors, I put my hand over my heart. If you have never sampled one of their famous Peproni Rolls or the Philly Cheese Steak Stromboli – please, stop by soon! Tell the lovely house-made Ranch Dressing Puckett says hello. Ha! Seriously.
