The Growler Bar USA is located a couple of miles south of Interstate 10 in Katy. Not only will you find really good food, but also really good craft beer… 100+ taps to be exact!

If you have been following me for any length of time, you know I am all about good eats, craft beer and cool local activities. Well, at the Growler USA in Katy I was in hog heaven! This Aggie-owned establishment (cherry on top) has all three of my passions.

Owners Lance and Jessica Mayo are focused on supporting local: local breweries, local charities and, of course, the local community.

Some people, when it’s their first time to a micro brew pub, get a little nervous. There is no need, just ask the brewtender all the questions you want. They are always happy to talk craft beer and will even give you a taster to make sure you like it before you order. Ha! I like that!

I noticed the words “True to the Brew” on the shirts the staff was wearing. When I asked what that meant, they let me know that from their top-of-the-line tap system and cooler to the glass rinsers that chill the inside of your glass to 34 degrees – the beverages they serve meet the highest level of expectations from the brewers themselves, including individual pressure settings on each tap. If that’s not “True to the Brew”, I’m not sure what is.

We quickly ordered a couple of Top Texas Craft BeersNo Label Brewing Company “Brew of H”… when in Rome, ya know? This local Katy brewery has some great beers and Brew of H is one of them. This is a good, hoppy beer with a very creamy smooth finish. I do recommend.

I was in Texas on a gorgeous Fall Saturday and, by golly, we were watching college football. There isn’t much better than spending the day eating great food, drinking great beer and watching great games. I had a smile from ear to ear as our great server asked us what we would like to eat. Let the REAL games begin!

We ordered a little bit of everything, but my VERY favorites were the Buffalo Chicken Dip, Oven-Roasted Chicken Wings, Chicken Avocado Club, Beer Brat Gyro with Side Salad and, of course, the Chocolate Chip Cookie with Blue Bell ice cream.

The Buffalo Chicken Dip might just be the best thing on the menu at Growler USA – I love it that much! It goes so perfectly with a number of beers. Served with pita bread for scooping, this dip is made with roasted chicken, cream cheese, a 3-cheese mix, Spicy Buffalo Sauce and sprinkled with green onion. My mouth is literally salivating right now just thinking about it. The Buffalo Chicken Sauce has a nice tang, but the 3-cheese mix is what puts it over the top. If you enjoy Buffalo Chicken, you must order this as a starter.

Next up were the Oven-Roasted Chicken Wings. Now, don’t get me wrong – I like Fried Chicken Wings, but it was nice surprise to see oven-roasted on the menu.

At Growler USA in Katy, they have a grease-free kitchen. That means no fryers or open flames, everything is oven-baked. I like it!

And I loved the wings! We ordered a number of different sauces including Buffalo, Honey Sriracha, Sticky BBQ and Asian. My favorite sauce was the Buffalo dipped in blue cheese… but I am kind of a classic wing guy. All the flavors were amazing!

If you are looking for a nice sandwich to go with your Pale Ale, I say go for the Chicken Avocado Club. The oven-roasted chicken was so juicy and the fresh avocado reminded me of the ones I enjoy in San Diego. It was filled with Roma tomatoes, crispy bacon, Provolone cheese, and mayonnaise served on toasted sourdough bread. Is THAT something you would be interested in? Delicious!

It’s funny because I had planned on drinking a local porter or stout as a dessert. Then I noticed a table next to us was being served a sizzling pan filled with a Chocolate Chip Cookie and Blue Bell ice cream. At that moment, I could just taste the hot, sweet, Chocolate Chip Cookie balanced and cooled off by the Blue Bell ice cream. I had to have this delightful dessert… and so I did! Make sure you save room for dessert.

Seared Ahi

Sliced, 5-spice dusted ahi tuna served with a Ponzu dipping sauce.

Beef Brisket Sliders

Beef brisket smothered in Stout BBQ sauce and covered with southern-style coleslaw, on a toasted slider bun.

ASIAN

Marinated chicken and mixed greens tossed with an Asian Vinaigrette, fresh carrots, julienned red peppers, and chopped walnuts.

Beer Brat Gyro with Side Salad

Beer brat, tzatziki sauce, sliced Roma tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and julienned red onion. Wrapped in warm pita bread.

Chicken Avocado Club

Oven-roasted chicken, fresh avocado, Roma tomatoes, crispy bacon, provolone cheese, and mayo on a toasted sourdough bread.

 

Buffalo Chicken Wrap with Mac ‘n Cheese & Tater Tots

Crispy chicken tenders tossed in a spicy buffalo sauce with romaine lettuce, fresh Roma tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese with your choice of ranch or bleu cheese dressing. Wrapped in a garlic tortilla.
